Wellness Book Study: Eastern Body, Western Mind

What is a wellness book study?

A wellness book study is a gathering of individuals who are reading the same book and want to explore each chapter, section, or any aspect of the material in more depth. It’s a space for meaningful discussion and reflection on the book's teachings.

Sign up for all 8 weeks or drop in as you like! A virtual option is available—simply contact the studio for the link once you’ve signed up.

For this session, we’ve chosen: Eastern Body, Western Mind by Anodea Judith

Why did we choose Eastern Body, Western Mind?

This book offers a unique blend of Eastern spiritual practices and Western psychology to explore how the energy centers (chakras) influence our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. It’s a thought-provoking guide to understanding our bodies, minds, and the connections between them. We’re excited to dive into its teachings together!

We will meet once a month on the last Sunday of each month, from March through October, from 5:30-7:00 pm.

March 30th ~ Session 1: Introduction: Pages 1-50

April 27th ~ Session 2: Chakra One: Pages 51-102

May 25th ~ Session 3: Chakra Two: Pages 103-164

June 29th ~ Session 4: Chakra Three: Pages 165-220

July 27th ~ Session 5: Chakra Four: Pages 221-284

I Stretch Every Day… But I Still Feel Tight

Sound familiar?

You feel great after class — but a few days later, that nagging tightness is back. You stretch your hips, your back, your shoulders… but it never seems to stick.

In this 75-minute interactive class, fellow yogi and Doctor of Physical Therapy Matthew Rieder will guide you through full-body movement patterns that restore lasting flexibility.

You’ll learn why traditional stretching often fails, how your nervous system controls mobility, and what to do when those “tight spots” never seem to go away.

Walk away feeling looser, stronger, and more confident in your practice — with tools you can use in every yoga class.

More about Doctor Matthew Rieder:

Hi! Matt Rieder here. I’ve been a physical therapist for 15 years. I love running, climbing, hiking, scuba diving for giant shark teeth, and, of course, yoga. I stumbled onto the practice just over two years ago at our local climbing gym and was instantly hooked. I’m looking forward to answering any questions about movement, how the body works, mobility, stability, proper form, or anything else you can think up. Go ahead and try to stump me. I love a challenge! I think we can all learn something new and have a lot of fun along the way.

Strengthening the Hips Workshop

Strengthening the Hips Workshop

One of the most common reasons for hip pain and tightness is due to weakness. Learn how to strengthen your hips by engaging the surrounding muscles during and even outside of your yoga class. In this workshop, you will have a better understanding for the disproportionate ways we stress the hip joint and how including simple techniques can lengthen and strengthen the muscles of the hip.

We will:

🦴Recognize the primary anatomy surrounding the hip joint area.

⭕️Use the full 360 degrees of the hip joint in a balanced way.

🧘‍♀️Practice how to get more out of the fundamental poses like Warriors and Forward Bends.

💪Build commensurate strength by using active range-of-motion (ROM) techniques to strengthen weak hip joint muscles.

This workshop is for all levels!

Repairative Yoga Immersion

Repairative Yoga Immersion

What if?

  • You can go deeper in your practice in a way that positively impacts your life as a whole

  • Learn self-trust enough that you don’t need any outside certainty beyond the care and love you provide yourself

  • Grow from your inner-impulses, and effectively increase the transferability of skills learned on the yoga mat into
    your daily life

You can with the Repairative Yoga Immersion – 20‑hour deep dive
This immersive program offers a transformative 20‑hour journey into Repairative (restorative) yoga, designed to cultivate profound relaxation, self-awareness, and healing. Through guided, long-held poses, you'll learn techniques that ease nervous system tension, enhance flexibility, and reduce stress. The immersion blends experiential practice with thoughtful instruction—covering breath-work, somatic awareness, and the therapeutic use of self contact—to deepen the mind–body connection.

Repairative being a type of yoga that utilizes the effectiveness of self-contact within the yoga postures in order to best self-assist, deepen, and soothe one’s whole “personal ecosystem” of mind, body, spirit and emotions.

I attribute this direct self-contact to why there is increased transferability of skills learned on the mat to take into the world due to greater self-agency that is being developed.

Ideal for :

  • Uncertified Practitioners of Yoga

  • Experienced, highly-trained Yoga Facilitators

  • Somatic-based mental health professionals including
therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, and wellness coaches

  • Anyone seeking a gentle yet powerful reset.

The immersion enhances your personal practice and equips you with tools to support others in healing. Whether recovering from injury, managing emotional overwhelm, or simply craving a sanctuary from daily life, this program emphasizes compassionate self-care, somatic presence, and lasting resilience.

Day 1: Friday, September 26th 12:00-4:00pm
Building Enhanced Trust with Yourself and Your Practice: Deepening Your Body’s Role as Leader. On day one, the focus is on exercises to strengthen the yoga practitioner’s self-bond. The personal accomplishment of fostering new levels of self-trust is prioritized for maximum gain and traction forward with the practice and training.

Day 2: Saturday, September 27th 10:00am-6:00pm
Becoming More BOLD in Your Practice: On day two, we tap into the full breadth of what it means to be fully human and alive through exploration of more solo, paired, and group exercises. We also learn to address what’s in the room for all practitioners in a more connective way: becoming more transparent with our experience so that we are kindling inclusivity when we practice and/or facilitate, and promoting courage-taking for all.

Day 3: Sunday, September 28th 10:00am-6:00pm
Unifying Ourselves for Greater Resilience on and off the Mat: This day calls on experiential role play of principles discussed at the start of the session. We identify where we might get hung up in our lives, and therefore on the mats. This helps us to secure greater planning for being accessible to ourselves first before anyone else. When we heighten our self-knowledge, as is earned through yogic self-study, we are more liberated to live free inside and out.

Investment:

3 Day Option: $800 / 2 Day Option: $534 / 1 Day Option: $267

Repairative Yoga has many benefits beyond the ordinary:

  • Increase self-agency by discovering more about what you both need and want in order to best serve your practice.

  • Increase oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine with the cornerstones of the Repairative Yoga practice in motion.

  • Increase self-determination for greater life confidence on and off the mat.

  • Increase self-knowledge and become more of who you’ve always wanted to be while having your own back.

Read more about the school & see reviews HERE.

The school is registered with Yoga Alliance and quailifys you to receive 20 CEUs.

F A Q

What’s the difference between this form of Yoga and most?

We are heavy on self-care. Our Yoga isn’t focused on athletics or being performative. Actually, the body metabolizes best when in the rest and digest branch of the autonomic nervous system.

What else do I need to know about this Yoga Practice?

Simply put, being sensitive isn’t something that can be taught because it is an internal process that needs to be learned from within. Being informed isn’t enough in order to build necessary integrated and compassionate understanding. The Repairative Yoga facilitator is required to learn how to navigate discomfort and challenging sensation in response to one’s changing personal experience.

What is the difference between a Yoga Instructor, Yoga Teacher, and Yoga Facilitator?

A Yoga Instructor gives you instructions on how to practice postures. A Yoga Teacher gives you instructions on how to practice postures, and tells you the benefits as to why you are doing them. A Yoga Facilitator tells you instructions for the postures being practiced, plus the benefits, and shares all of the above in a way that facilitates dynamic exploration, and activates self-determination, for each participant. This approach effectively increases the transferability of Yoga skills that are learned on the mat in order to bring them into everyday life.

Why should I try something new?

History has it that yoga was created by men for men only, and in 1939 the first female eventually, after foreign intervention was allowed to study alongside the well-known names, Iyengar and Jois. However, Indra Devi brought yoga to the United States first before anyone else did. She reshaped parts of what she had learned of the practice in order to make it more accessible for Americans through her teaching and her book, Yoga for Americans. This was nine years before Iyengar even arrived on U.S. soil to share the health modality of yoga. It was an important life mission for her to make yoga more accessible for North Americans back in the 1940s. Well, that was nearly a hundred years ago, and yoga has evolved massively since then!

From 2005 to now, Jo has worked to bring a more full self-
inclusive approach to the yoga mat practice.

We hope you enjoy learning about Repairative Yoga!

Yin Yoga with Reiki & Live Music

Yin Yoga is the perfect way to turn inward and unstimulate. This 90 minute offering will guide you through a gentle & meditative yin practice, accompanied by reiki energy healing and live ambient guitar. It’s absolutely vital that we make the time for self care, as healing ourselves is the most significant thing we can do to help heal the world.

Pre-registration is recommended as space is limited to 10 participants.

Investment: $30 In Person / 2 Person Special $50 / $10 Virtual

About the instructors:

Hi, I’m Steffanie and I am honored to be a part of your wellness journey. I dabbled in yoga in my teens and early twenties, but nothing really stuck. I always knew I wanted to be in a helping profession, so I earned my Master’s in Psychology in 2006. While working with a wide range of individuals in the mental health field, I personally struggled with anxiety, depression and an overall lack of mindfulness. During one of the first times I practiced Ashtanga with Brittney Crosby, I was able to find a moment (just a moment) of stillness. A moment where my over active mind stopped… and just focused on my breath and the present moment. I continued practicing Ashtanga, because I wanted to continue to heal myself, and others. I received my Reiki II attunement in 2014, but yearned for more. I decided to pursue my 200-hour yoga teacher training. To say that training was transformative would be an understatement. It came at the exact right time in my life. It confirmed my love for yoga and gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to help others on their self-healing journey. I earned my 200-hour YTT certificate in 2017, and immediately jumped into 300-hour YTT, which was completed in 2018. I will always see myself as a student, and as I continue to study and practice, it would be my greatest privilege to be a part of your healing journey.

Ryan Mahon, Steffanie’s husband, will be giving you soothing sounds on the guitar.

This unique workshop seamlessly blends the power of visualization through vision boards with the serenity of a manifestation meditation, offering you a holistic approach to setting and achieving your intentions for the nature’s new year.

🔓 Unlock Your Potential: Begin your journey by unlocking the power of your imagination and aspirations. Through guided introspection and mindfulness exercises, you'll tap into your deepest desires and ambitions, creating a clear vision of the life you wish to manifest in the coming year.

✂️ Vision Board Creation: Immerse yourself in the creative process of crafting your personal vision board. Our expert facilitators will provide a curated selection of materials, from magazines and images to affirmations and quotes, enabling you to visually represent your goals, dreams, and intentions. As you arrange and collage these elements onto your board, you'll be manifesting your aspirations into a tangible, visual form.

🧠 Mindful Manifestation Meditation: Immerse yourself in a guided manifest meditation session. Our experienced meditation guide will lead you through a tranquil journey, helping you connect with the energy of your intentions. Through mindfulness and visualization techniques, you'll cultivate a state of deep focus and relaxation, reinforcing the positive energy associated with your goals.

💞Community Connection: Experience the power of shared intention as you engage with a community of like-minded individuals. Share your goals, gain insights from others, and foster a supportive network that enhances the manifestation process. The collective energy of the group amplifies the potency of your intentions, creating a shared space of encouragement and inspiration. Embark on this transformative journey with us and step into nature’s new year with clarity, purpose, and a renewed sense of self.

Our Vision Board & Manifest Meditation Workshop is not just an event—it's a springboard for personal growth and a mindful approach to realizing the life you envision.

Join us and let the power of intention guide you towards a year of fulfillment and abundance. Just as water and sunlight help the plants grow; vision boards and regulating your nervous system help you manifest and make your desires happen. We provide magazines, glue, and scissors.
